Warm Colors and Warm Thoughts

I've been playing with my distress inks and background stamps this week.  I stamped some warm orange and yellow distress inks (Mustard Seed, Scattered Straw and Wild Honey) onto a craft sheet, misted it, and drew some glossy cardstock through the resulting puddle  After letting it dry, I used Spiced Marmalade to stamp my RRD Sequin Waste background on top of my inky cardstock.

My endeavors ended up being enough for two cards.  The first uses a brand-new Ranger set called Collaged Hearts that I just received.  I waited until my background dried completely.  I then stamped the largest heart from the set with Brushed Corduroy distress ink.  I let it dry for a short time and then smudged the dickens out of it with a cotton ball so I ended up with the idea of a heart rather than an actual image.  On top of this, I stamped a medium-sized heart with StazOn Timber Brown. Finally, I added a trio of hearts with Vintage Photo Distress ink.  This time I let it all dry!  I matted the panel on dark brown and added it to an apricot base.  Finally, I stamped a sentiment from the same set onto the bottom of the card.

Stamps: Medium Heart, Small Heart, Tiny Heart Trio and sentiment from (Ranger);
Sequin Waste background  from Behind the Scenes (Rogue Redhead Designs)
I will be entering this card into the following charming challenges:

Left of Center Creative Challenges - No Designer Paper (background is all me)

613 Avenue Create - Anything Goes

That Craft Place Challenge - Sentimental

Using the same background I created above, I made another card with a completely different feel.  Again,  I waited until everything dried and punched out 9 squares with my 1" punch.

Stamps: Clarisse from Nature Notes; Sequin Waste from Behind the Scenes (Rogue Redhead Designs)
Clarisse is colored with copic markers with some Scattered Straw distress ink painted around her with an waterbrush.

I am entering this sweetie in the following sensational challenges:

Corrosive Challenges - Autumn/Fall

Simply Create Too - Autumn/ Fall

Crafting at the Weekend - Anything Goes

I hope you are also enjoying the warmth and colors of the season.

Going Green & Simple

I was playing around with smooshing some of my distress inks onto some glossy paper.  I love doing this technique!  Always different and always easy!

I used a variety of greens and yellows for the background for these two cards.  For the first card, I used a new-to-me stamp from Stampers Anonymous.

I paired it with an ultra-simple layout.  Okay, I had to do it...the pun was just unavoidable.  It would have been fruitless to try :)

A simple mat and a block of designer paper give this card a bold look!

Stamp: Stampers Anonymous

I hope this card can qualify for the following challenges:

Cards & More - Clean & Simple

Try It On Tuesdays - How Does Your Garden Grow (I've used this gorgeous pear which I wish grew in my garden)

Vintage Stamping - Anything Goes

Now, this piece of glossy paper really worked out great! I love the little dots in the background and the great but subtle color variations!

Again, I matched this simple image with a very basic layout.  I headed back to the same designer paper for some nice contrast.  For the key itself, I extended the mat beyond the image to give it some extra grounding.

Stamp: Hampton Art

This card might be a lock for the following challenges:

Cardz 4 Guys - Clean & Simple

Crafts Galore Encore - Make a Card

Tok Bobok - Masculine

Have a fab and fun day!  I'm going to enjoy the green while it lasts!

Another Reader for National Literacy Month

I got Marie out of hiding.  She was the first image I chose for my Relish Reading plate!  I just love her no-nonsense look!  I wanted a reader for my creation to page a bit of homage to National Literacy Month!  Literacy is a cause I wholeheartedly get behind!  Without written language, so much of the world is hidden!  If you have any budding or struggling readers, please do your best to share the joy and wonder of reading!

For this card, I went with a very simple look.  I think this layout may be a lifesaver for using up all my crazy designer paper scraps!

Here's the layout I used.  It's the Rogue Stampers Sketch for this month!  If you want to join in, join our Rogue Stampers Facebook group!

Here's what I did with it!  Marie is sitting pretty in the middle of the card, looking moodily at all those who would interrupt her trying to finish her fabulous novel!  The inspiration for the color palette came from the scrap of designer paper I found! It is actually one of the freebies from the pages of Stamper's Sampler or Take Ten.  I knew I kept them around for a reason!

Stamp: Marie from Relish Reading plate (Rogue Redhead Designs)
I hope this card is well-suited to fit the following challenges:

Daring Cardmakers - September Color Combo  (think it fits rather nicely)

Stamplorations - Stamps & Markers (Stamp: Marie from Relish Reading; markers are copic)

Craft for the Craic - Something with Circles on It

I am in the midst of two novels right now - Feast for Crows (Game of Thrones #4) and The Island of Lost Girls.  Gotta love being able to lose oneself in another world!  It's sort of like stamping that way, except less inky!

Same Scraps, Different Day

I really liked the way my Sally card worked out the other day color-wise, so I decided to use the same scraps to create another quick card.  This one has much more white but it is a similar idea using a few different patterned panels.

I love this easy look and it's such a great way to use up coordinating scraps and highlight a quote or simple image.  I made my mats 3.5" x 1.5" and deducted an 1/8" for the actual scraps.  A ruler is very useful when creating this look!  I laid it across the bottom of my card to line up all my panels.

Stamp: Life is a Flower quote from Floriculture (Rogue Redhead Designs)

I thought this card might fit the following challenges:

Frilly and Funky - Summer Garden

Crafting by Designs - Anything Goes

Craftyhazelnut's Patterned Paper Challenge - Anything with Patterned Paper

Hope you like it!  The papers made me think of shabby chic!

September Stamping

Hi all!  Yup, I have been away from my crafting table all summer.  Can you believe it?  It's the longest I've gone without stamping since I started back in 2005!  Everyone needs a break now and again and my creative mojo was just begging for one!  You've all been there, right?

Besides, I had my amazing teen at home for the summer and wanted to spend as much time as I could hanging out with her on my days off of work!  It's around this age that it dawns on us as parents that time is running short.  My gorgeous beauty is already a sophomore in high school and I don't understand how that happened as I have not aged at all!

In honor of my hard-working student, I decided to use a stamp that reminds me of my sweet daughter.  This image is from my RRD Relish Reading plate and her name is Sally.

I am starting off September, on this fabulous Labor Day, with a challenge card using a sketch I saw over at The Sweetest Thing.  I think I will use this particular sketch again and again!  Isn't it lovely?

Here's my take on it, using Sally from Relish Reading!  I dipped into my scrap box for the papers. I just love teals with browns.  To me, it's an elegant and timeless color combination!

Stamps: Sally from Relish Reading (Rogue Redhead Designs)
I also thought this card might qualify for these other charming challenges:

Addicted to Stamps - Pastels / Soft Colors

Stamping Sensations - Anything Goes

Hope everyone had a glorious summer!  It was over too fast!

For My Honey of a Husband on Father's Day

Father's Day is a day to let the fathers in our lives - our own Dads, our husbands, our grown sons, our brothers and even our special friends - know that we all appreciate them!

I made the card below for my honey of a husband for all he does....even if we do have to suffer Dad-created puns and "Dad jokes".  You all know what I mean.....

Stamps: Honey Bear and sentiment from Getting Grizzly;
Here are some other cards I have made over the years:

Have a fun and festive Father's Day!

One-Layer with Dot

I've playing around with a simple quilted tiles technique this week. I broke out my Milliner Misses and Floriculture plates to create a pretty birthday card for my Mom.

I thought Dot, the name of the image above, would be perfect as I named it for my maternal grandmother.

This quilted tiles background is so quick and easy and makes a nice, simple way to set off a focal image.   If you like this technique, you can check out my tutorial on Rogue Redhead Designs.

Catching Up with the Blogosphere

This winter has been hard on everyone.  Here in the Northeast, we keep getting socked by snow and more snow....did I mention snow?  Every single week since New Year's there has been some sort of storm...and more coming maybe on Thursday...good grief!!!

Anyway, it's taken it's toll on me and my time to do stuff that did not include working a ton of extra hours, shoveling and trying to figure out all the Roguette's schedule changes. Soo...I took a week off....went somewhere sunny and regrouped!

Now that the sun is back in my disposition, I can concentrate on the year to come!  Jafebruarch...the name I gave to the seemingly timeless winter season is nearly at a close.  I feel like I just made it through one of the legendary Winters in Game of Thrones.  Which house has the saying Summer is Coming?  I mean I am all about House Stark (well, those that are still alive), but the whole Winter is Coming thing is never going to be my mantra....

Today is my last posting on Unruly PaperArts as a regular columnist. I am sad to leave the publication that I founded almost 2 years ago. It was a ton of fun to work with all the fabulously talented artists who have been involved with the blogozine and to learn from all of them. Thanks all for helping me make the blogoziine amazing and for keeping it going!

Special thanks to Danie May who took over the job of editor and Zoe Sanderson for helping her out.  They've changed the look and done some great new stuff so be sure to check it out!  My last column is entitled Vintrigue: Bordering on Vintage and I've put together a few samples of how to use vintage pages as borders in your art!

Here's a quicky peak:

http://www.unrulypaperarts.com/2014/03/vintriguebordering-on-vintage.html

Hope you will stop by and see what I put together!

As life marches on though, I find I have to do more and more with less and less time.  Who knew that having a full-time job, raising a teenager (good grief). running my own company and working on 3 blogs would be so crazy!  Okay, okay, you all knew....and you all tried to tell me but live and learn right!  Rather than keep stressing  myself out, I decided to concentrate on doing my personal stamping and having fun with my fellow Rogues at Rogue Redhead Designs, my stamp company.

Stamp: women from Winter Women (Rogue Redhead Designs)

So basically, as a true rogue would do, I am ditching 90% of my administrative time and upping my GETTIN' INKY TIME!  Never was good at the settle down type stuff....time to get back to the reason I actually stamp - FUN, CREATIVITY and FRIENDS!

These last couple of months, I have revamped some of our fun stuff at RRD, adding in new stamps - 2 plates of my own and bring in some new manufacturers.  I have formed the new Rogue Stampers group on Facebook where we will get together share art, take on a monthly sketch, and just have some good old-fashioned fun!

I started a new feature called the Holiday Inspiration Club to help the permanently busy people (such as myself) get Christmas and/or Chanukah cards done for the 2014 holiday season by doing a couple of cards each month.  This month, we have our first guest Rogue taking on the challenge - thanks to the fabulous Holly Brown for sharing her talents.  Go to the Rogue Redhead Designs blog on Saturday to see what she's been up to and to get your next HIC prompt!

We've also started a new Plate of the Month feature on RRD which will give inspiration to those who already have the featured plate and a bargain for those who want to get the featured plate.  For everyone, there will be a space to share their own artwork!  This month, in honor of the Mardi Gras feel (and because after all that snow I needed something fun) we are featuring our Beautifully Dunn mini - Carnival Dreams!

http://rogueredheaddesigns.com/Specials.html

Here's a little piece I put together for that and it uses the current Rogue Stampers sketch!

Stamp: the Lovers from Carnival Dreams (Rogue Redhead Designs)
So thanks for being patient while I dig out of both my literal and creative Winter! See you soon!

Forest of Tree Cards

Continuing on with the new Tree-mendous prompt for the Rogue Redhead Designs Holiday Inspiration Club, I had some fun with the silhouette Christmas tree from the RRD Christmas Cheer plate.

http://rogueredheaddesigns.blogspot.com/2014/02/holiday-inspiration-club-tree-mendous.html

For this first one, I created a simple card with a focus on the tree.  I coordinated some Stampin' Up River Rock cardstock and some deep greens for a soft feel.  To create more interest in the tree, I added a background behind it in a lighter color ink.

Stamps: Christmas Tree from Christmas Cheer
and Handwritten Music from Behind the Scenes (Rogue Redhead Designs)

I liked the way it looked so I decided to go simple with a one-layer blocked color design in similar shades of yellow-green.  I love repetition.

Stamps: Christmas Tree from Christmas Cheer  (Rogue Redhead Designs)
For my last one, I decided again on a one-layer card with a little nice repetition.  This time I stamped the Christmas tree at different levels and then used a sheet of ripped scrap paper to create some lovely frosty-blue hills.  I added three levels of hills to mirror the three trees.

Stamps: Christmas Tree and sentiment from Christmas Cheer
(Rogue Redhead Designs)
I had a lot of fun with the different ways to play with this simple tree.  I hope you can come and play with us too!  Check out the HIC post for February and link up your own take on Tree-mendous!

Tree-Mendous - Feb RRD Holiday Inspiration Club Prompt

The Rogue Redhead Designs Holiday Inspiration Club has released its next prompt - Tree-mendous.  The idea is to include a tree of some kind in a creation which can help you to meet your Christmas/Chanukah 2014 holiday crafting needs!

Last year, I was woefully behind schedule so, this year, I am having fun with the Holiday Inspiration Club and doing a little bit each month. I now have 13 holiday cards, all different, all set for December 2014!

Here is one of my new cards. For this one, I selected an image with trees in the background.  The image is a from Festive Fun (Barkley - available at Rogue Redhead Designs) and I colored it with copics.   I picked a simple designer paper that seemed to be "frosty" and just let the image hog the whole card :)  Seemed like a nice idea!  That pup is too cute and his companion kitty is totally sweet!

Stamp: Festive Fun (Barkley - available at Rogue Redhead Designs)

I am also entering these two cuties into the following challenges:

Pattie's Creastions Design Challenges - Use Red in your Image (Cat's hat!)

C.R.A.F.T. Challenges - Christmas

Hope to see some of your tree-mendous ideas over at the RRD blog or at the Rogue Stampers Facebook group.

Three Pink Ladies

It always amazes me how slight changes can alter the look of a card. I made these three cards using a pretty piece of designer paper.

On the first, I did a traditional mat and centered the focal image over it.  Basic and beautiful.

Stamp: Bridget from Winter Women (Rogue Redhead Designs)

On the next one, I offset the image slightly, putting it up and to the left.  I liked the shadow effect it created.

Stamp: Bridget from Winter Women (Rogue Redhead Designs)

On the last, I just offset the focal image by moving it closer to the upper edge making more of a teardrop look.  While the differences are very slight, they definitely produced different effects.

Stamp: Bridget from Winter Women (Rogue Redhead Designs)
Gotta love an afternoon when you can make three quick and easy cards!

Tagging with Winter Women

I am sill having fun with the Winter Women plate.  Recently, the Rogue Crew did a blog hop to introduce this new RRD stamp collection.  We all created samples using a limited color palette - shades of blue, black and white.

To keep the fun going, I decided to make a tag with the same limited color scheme.

I started off by sponging a couple different shades of blue distress ink onto a white tag.  I then stamped the lovely Marjorie in the middle of the tag with black ink.  I then inked the shoe mini background from the same collection with the darkest colored blue ink and added it to the top-left and bottom-right portions of the tag.  I then stamped other images from the same plate over the tag in black ink.

Stamps: Marjorie, Evelyn, boot, mini background and sentiments
from Winter Women (Rogue Redhead Designs)
I am entering this tag in the following fabulous challenges:

Allsorts - Colors Beginning with B (Blue & Black)

Artistic Stamper - Use Distress

Frosted Designs - Winter Blues

Hope you don't have any Winter blues!

Getting Sentimental with Winter Women

Sometimes it's nice to just focus on the sentiment!  That's what I did for this card!

The snowflake was created with my new Martha Stewart Crafts Circle Edge Punch set.  Cool, isn't it?  Trust Martha to create something that seems pretty foolproof.

The sentiment I used is from the new RRD Winter Women collection.  It reads "Laughter is the sun that drives winter from the human face".

Stamp: sentiment from Winter Women (Rogue Redhead Deisgns)

I am entering this card in the following charming challenges:

Allsorts - Colours Beginning with B (Blue and Black)

Sweet Stampin' - Sentiment Only

Crafty Hazelnut's Patterned Paper Challenge - Anything Goes with Patterned Paper

Hope your day is filled with lots of laughter and a little less winter.
