For My Honey of a Husband on Father's Day

Father's Day is a day to let the fathers in our lives - our own Dads, our husbands, our grown sons, our brothers and even our special friends - know that we all appreciate them!

I made the card below for my honey of a husband for all he does....even if we do have to suffer Dad-created puns and "Dad jokes".  You all know what I mean.....

Here are some other cards I have made over the years:

Have a fun and festive Father's Day!

One-Layer with Dot

I've playing around with a simple quilted tiles technique this week. I broke out my Milliner Misses and Floriculture plates to create a pretty birthday card for my Mom.

I thought Dot, the name of the image above, would be perfect as I named it for my maternal grandmother.

This quilted tiles background is so quick and easy and makes a nice, simple way to set off a focal image.   If you like this technique, you can check out my tutorial on Rogue Redhead Designs.

Stamps: Dot from Milliner Misses and sentiment from Floriculture plate (Rogue Redhead Designs)

Catching Up with the Blogosphere

This winter has been hard on everyone.  Here in the Northeast, we keep getting socked by snow and more snow....did I mention snow?  Every single week since New Year's there has been some sort of storm...and more coming maybe on Thursday...good grief!!!

Anyway, it's taken it's toll on me and my time to do stuff that did not include working a ton of extra hours, shoveling and trying to figure out all the Roguette's schedule changes. Soo...I took a week off....went somewhere sunny and regrouped!

Now that the sun is back in my disposition, I can concentrate on the year to come!  Jafebruarch...the name I gave to the seemingly timeless winter season is nearly at a close.  I feel like I just made it through one of the legendary Winters in Game of Thrones.  Which house has the saying Summer is Coming?  I mean I am all about House Stark (well, those that are still alive), but the whole Winter is Coming thing is never going to be my mantra....

Today is my last posting on Unruly PaperArts as a regular columnist. I am sad to leave the publication that I founded almost 2 years ago. It was a ton of fun to work with all the fabulously talented artists who have been involved with the blogozine and to learn from all of them. Thanks all for helping me make the blogoziine amazing and for keeping it going!

Special thanks to Danie May who took over the job of editor and Zoe Sanderson for helping her out.  They've changed the look and done some great new stuff so be sure to check it out!  My last column is entitled Vintrigue: Bordering on Vintage and I've put together a few samples of how to use vintage pages as borders in your art!

Here's a quicky peak:

Hope you will stop by and see what I put together!

As life marches on though, I find I have to do more and more with less and less time.  Who knew that having a full-time job, raising a teenager (good grief). running my own company and working on 3 blogs would be so crazy!  Okay, okay, you all knew....and you all tried to tell me but live and learn right!  Rather than keep stressing  myself out, I decided to concentrate on doing my personal stamping and having fun with my fellow Rogues at Rogue Redhead Designs, my stamp company.

Stamp: women from Winter Women (Rogue Redhead Designs)

So basically, as a true rogue would do, I am ditching 90% of my administrative time and upping my GETTIN' INKY TIME!  Never was good at the settle down type stuff....time to get back to the reason I actually stamp - FUN, CREATIVITY and FRIENDS!

These last couple of months, I have revamped some of our fun stuff at RRD, adding in new stamps - 2 plates of my own and bring in some new manufacturers.  I have formed the new Rogue Stampers group on Facebook where we will get together share art, take on a monthly sketch, and just have some good old-fashioned fun!

I started a new feature called the Holiday Inspiration Club to help the permanently busy people (such as myself) get Christmas and/or Chanukah cards done for the 2014 holiday season by doing a couple of cards each month.  This month, we have our first guest Rogue taking on the challenge - thanks to the fabulous Holly Brown for sharing her talents.  Go to the Rogue Redhead Designs blog on Saturday to see what she's been up to and to get your next HIC prompt!

We've also started a new Plate of the Month feature on RRD which will give inspiration to those who already have the featured plate and a bargain for those who want to get the featured plate.  For everyone, there will be a space to share their own artwork!  This month, in honor of the Mardi Gras feel (and because after all that snow I needed something fun) we are featuring our Beautifully Dunn mini - Carnival Dreams!

Here's a little piece I put together for that and it uses the current Rogue Stampers sketch!

So thanks for being patient while I dig out of both my literal and creative Winter! See you soon!

Forest of Tree Cards

Continuing on with the new Tree-mendous prompt for the Rogue Redhead Designs Holiday Inspiration Club, I had some fun with the silhouette Christmas tree from the RRD Christmas Cheer plate.

For this first one, I created a simple card with a focus on the tree.  I coordinated some Stampin' Up River Rock cardstock and some deep greens for a soft feel.  To create more interest in the tree, I added a background behind it in a lighter color ink.

Stamps: Christmas Tree from Christmas Cheer
and Handwritten Music from Behind the Scenes (Rogue Redhead Designs)

I liked the way it looked so I decided to go simple with a one-layer blocked color design in similar shades of yellow-green.  I love repetition.

Stamps: Christmas Tree from Christmas Cheer  (Rogue Redhead Designs)
For my last one, I decided again on a one-layer card with a little nice repetition.  This time I stamped the Christmas tree at different levels and then used a sheet of ripped scrap paper to create some lovely frosty-blue hills.  I added three levels of hills to mirror the three trees.

(Rogue Redhead Designs)
I had a lot of fun with the different ways to play with this simple tree.  I hope you can come and play with us too!  Check out the HIC post for February and link up your own take on Tree-mendous!

Tree-Mendous - Feb RRD Holiday Inspiration Club Prompt

The Rogue Redhead Designs Holiday Inspiration Club has released its next prompt - Tree-mendous.  The idea is to include a tree of some kind in a creation which can help you to meet your Christmas/Chanukah 2014 holiday crafting needs!

Last year, I was woefully behind schedule so, this year, I am having fun with the Holiday Inspiration Club and doing a little bit each month. I now have 13 holiday cards, all different, all set for December 2014!

Here is one of my new cards. For this one, I selected an image with trees in the background.  The image is a from Festive Fun (Barkley - available at Rogue Redhead Designs) and I colored it with copics.   I picked a simple designer paper that seemed to be "frosty" and just let the image hog the whole card :)  Seemed like a nice idea!  That pup is too cute and his companion kitty is totally sweet!

Stamp: Festive Fun (Barkley - available at Rogue Redhead Designs)

I am also entering these two cuties into the following challenges:

Pattie's Creastions Design Challenges - Use Red in your Image (Cat's hat!)

C.R.A.F.T. Challenges - Christmas

Hope to see some of your tree-mendous ideas over at the RRD blog or at the Rogue Stampers Facebook group.

Three Pink Ladies

It always amazes me how slight changes can alter the look of a card. I made these three cards using a pretty piece of designer paper.

On the first, I did a traditional mat and centered the focal image over it.  Basic and beautiful.

Stamp: Bridget from Winter Women (Rogue Redhead Designs)

On the next one, I offset the image slightly, putting it up and to the left.  I liked the shadow effect it created.

Stamp: Bridget from Winter Women (Rogue Redhead Designs)

On the last, I just offset the focal image by moving it closer to the upper edge making more of a teardrop look.  While the differences are very slight, they definitely produced different effects.

Gotta love an afternoon when you can make three quick and easy cards!

Tagging with Winter Women

I am sill having fun with the Winter Women plate.  Recently, the Rogue Crew did a blog hop to introduce this new RRD stamp collection.  We all created samples using a limited color palette - shades of blue, black and white.

To keep the fun going, I decided to make a tag with the same limited color scheme.

I started off by sponging a couple different shades of blue distress ink onto a white tag.  I then stamped the lovely Marjorie in the middle of the tag with black ink.  I then inked the shoe mini background from the same collection with the darkest colored blue ink and added it to the top-left and bottom-right portions of the tag.  I then stamped other images from the same plate over the tag in black ink.

Stamps: Marjorie, Evelyn, boot, mini background and sentiments
from Winter Women (Rogue Redhead Designs)
I am entering this tag in the following fabulous challenges:

Allsorts - Colors Beginning with B (Blue & Black)

Artistic Stamper - Use Distress

Frosted Designs - Winter Blues

Hope you don't have any Winter blues!

Getting Sentimental with Winter Women

Sometimes it's nice to just focus on the sentiment!  That's what I did for this card!

The snowflake was created with my new Martha Stewart Crafts Circle Edge Punch set.  Cool, isn't it?  Trust Martha to create something that seems pretty foolproof.

The sentiment I used is from the new RRD Winter Women collection.  It reads "Laughter is the sun that drives winter from the human face".

Stamp: sentiment from Winter Women (Rogue Redhead Deisgns)

I am entering this card in the following charming challenges:

Allsorts - Colours Beginning with B (Blue and Black)

Sweet Stampin' - Sentiment Only

Crafty Hazelnut's Patterned Paper Challenge - Anything Goes with Patterned Paper

Hope your day is filled with lots of laughter and a little less winter.

In addition to the great price on this new plate, we also have several bargains in the Specials section of our website and some fabulous deals among our limited availability Singles.

For the Blog Hop the Rogue Crew had an extra challenge - use Shades of Blue, Black and White for our creations!

Everyone knows I love my corner rounder.  It's my favorite took in my drawer.  I've done several cards with opposing rounded corners over the years and I always liked the effect.  When I opened up my latest Technique Junkies newsletter and it had a technique that used 4 tiles using the same idea, I just had to try it!

I colored the images with copic markers, sticking to a blue palette.  I turned each boot to have some fun with the format!   Hope you like the result!

Stamps: sentiment, Alice and boot from Winter Women (Rogue Redhead Designs)

Precious Pair Make Merry

Still going one-layer on my 2014 Chirstmas cards!  It's so nice to already have several made and ready to go for next year!

Without the crunch of the calendar blocking my creativity, I think I will have a great selection of one-of-a-kind cards to send off by next December!  This year, I barely got them out and only sent handmade cards to my nearest and dearest.

Want to get yours done early too?  Join us for our Holiday Inspiration Club at Rogue Redhead Designs which will have new ideas to get you going on the third Saturday of each month!

These little sweeties are from the new Christmas Cheer plate.  I colored them with copic markers before masking them with a oval mask.

I then added some more masking to isolate a nice bold stripe.  I stamped the reverse sequin waste background from Behind the Scenes first and then followed it with the Handwritten Music background from the same plate.  I finally sponged over the area to create a nice rich look.  The sentiment was added at the end.

Stamps: Precious Pair and Merry Christmas from Christmas Cheer plate and Handwritten Music
and Reverse Sequin backgrounds from Behind the Scenes plate (Rogue Redhead Designs)

I'd like to enter this card into the following challenges:

Hope you all have an old-fashioned fabulous Sunday!

Goodbye, Pandora. You Were Best Cat in the World

Yesterday, I lost my beloved and beautiful furry friend of 17 years, Pandora.  She always conducted herself with style and grace and was the diva of demure.

She took sick about 3 weeks ago. 3 long weeks ago.  She had never been sick before in her life.  She dealt with it with the same quiet dignity with which she handled everything.

She was sweet and affectionate. She came when called, greeted me at the door every day, slept at my feet every night (occasionally on my head), and "helped" my daughter study.

She was our rock, our confidante and definitely thought she was our queen.  She was marvelous and much loved!

She purred throughout her entire 17 and a half years, never stopping.  The house is very quiet.

Spotted the Chrsitmas Tree

In another quick card for the One-Layer Elegance prompt over at RRD's Holiday Inspiration Club, I went ultra simple.

This time, I used the versatile circle and a mix-and-match sentiment from Bits and Pieces and the Tree from Christmas Cheer for s eimple but what I think is effective CAS Christmas card.

I stamped the circle in the three iconic Christmas colors - yellow, red and green.  I made the middle one slightly farther up.  I then overstamped the Tree with Jet Black StazOn and added the sentiment.

Stamps: circle and sentiment from Bits and Pieces, tree from Christmas Cheer (Rogue Redhead Designs)

Santa Unmasked

As you may have read in my previous post, I am bound and determined to get well ahead on the 2014 Christmas holiday season.  Last year was a disaster of unexpected changes and lack of time, so this year I want everything to be different.

Of course, I lack the follow-through to keep up an 11-month plan on my lonesome with my family obligations, work overflowing and generalized lack of leisure time.  That's why I have enlisted the invaluable help of the outstanding and amazing Rogue Crew, the Rogue Redhead Design Team, otherwise known as some of the best women I have ever known.  They, with me, founded the RRD Holiday Inspiration Club which will appear on the RRD blog on the third Saturday of each month with a new holiday prompt!

This month we are working on One-Layer Elegance as our prompt as who wants to mess with complicated after all the fuss and celebrations of last month!

I've already made 7 unique cards and I did it all in one morning!  Not a bad way to start off a New Year!

Santa is a great ambassador of the holiday spirit!  If you;ve never looked up his origins, Saint Nicholas is a pretty interesting character.  Of course, the modern idea of Santa is a smushing together of a ton of different ideas, people and myths.  Check it out in Wikipedia if you don't believe me.

I love masking so these cards area all about Santa, after he is unmasked as it were.a

This first one was wicked simple.  I stamped good ole St. Nick (Christmas Cheer plate) in the center of a white piece of cardstock.  I stamped the image again on a re positionable note and cut it out and laid it over my original stamped image - totally basic masking technique.  I then stamped my Twaas the Night mini background from the same plate right over half of Santa.  I blocked off the edges with more re-positionable notes and sponged in some more color into the color block.  Easy peasy.

Stamps: Santa, Twas the Night mini background and sentiment from Christmas Cheer plate
(Rogue Redhead Designs)
Cardstock: Whisper White (Stampin' Up!)
Ink: Tuxedo Black (Memento); Scattered Straw and Wild Honey (Ranger Distress Ink); copic markers
Technique: basic masking
Other: repositionable notes

For the next one, I employed a little extra help from some Post-It Label and Correction tape which is the lazy person's way to mask off bits and pieces of artwork.  This one is the thicker kind but it comes in a number of different sizes including 1-line, 2-line and 6-line.  I can't wait to try this on some altered books but in the meantime I still had some more Santa ideas rolling around in my head.  I stamped and masked him again, this time with an oval mask.  I added the stripes and then had a ton of fun sponging in Spun Sugar Distress Ink, edging each section with Worn Lipstick and overstamping the Twas the Night mini background again, this time with Fire Brick Distress Ink  I used an aqua brush to add a little color to Santa's hat, face and beard.

Rosy Santa
Stamps: Santa, Twas the Night mini background and sentiment from Christmas Cheer plate

Cardstock: Whisper White (Stampin' Up!)
Ink: Tuxedo Black (Memento); Scattered Straw and Wild Honey (Ranger Distress Ink); copic markers

Other: repositionable notes, Post-It Label and Correction tape
Tools: aqua brush, oval cutter
Technique: basic masking

If you just love this Santa, the half plate he comes from - Christmas Cheer - is available until January 31, 2014 for its introductory price of US$10.00 (reg. US$15.00).
